Ohara Koson

Ohara Koson (1877–1945) was a prominent 20th-century Japanese artist known for his contributions to the Shin-Hanga movement. This movement sought to revive traditional woodblock printmaking by incorporating Western artistic influences, blending classical Japanese techniques with modern sensibilities.

Koson's  delicate depictions of nature, particularly birds and flowers, capture the essence of Japan’s cultural heritage during a time of rapid modernisation.

Koson’s work continues to symbolise the nation’s deep connection to its natural world and ancient traditions.
